The average four-year old laughs as many as three hundred times per day. The average forty-year-old, laughs three hundred times every 2.5 months. - Humor, Seriously by Jennifer Aaker and Naomi Bagdonas
After I read this I thought: screw those four-year-olds, I’m going to laugh FOUR HUNDRED TIMES A DAY!!! HAHAHAHAHA!
No, but for real: are you laughing enough in your day-to-day life?
Because here’s the thing. We’re all going to die soon.
Who wants to be reminded that the lights will go out one day?
NOBODY!
But, it’s the one thing you can be certain of. This journey you are on will eventually end.
The admission of this reality pushes me towards finding the light.
And I find the brightest light often sits with laughter.
KEEPING THE CHILD INSIDE ALIVE
One could argue. Your job as an adult. Is to find ways to keep the four-year-old who laughs 300 times a day alive.
Why is a four-year old laughing 300 times a day?
BECAUSE THIS SHIT IS FUNNY.
Translate THIS SHIT as life.
But it’s also so delightful.
And it’s absolutely absurd.
So do yourself a favor.
Make jokes.
Find the silly in the mundane.
Be goofy.
It’s the gift we all have access to.
But it’s up to you to make the choice.
And that choice is one of finding joy.
In all of it.
You can do it.
As long as you make an effort to do so.
Keep that child inside alive.
They’re waiting for you to set them free.
Go forth.
Stay safe.
Ride the wave.
