Good Morning! OMFG, you are here. You made it. Congratulations you wonderful MF/TS reader you. 😄
In the last MF/TS we explored:
Sand Talk wisdom and thoughts on wrestling pigs
Your career and the idea of winter harvesting
Media / Advertising theory: Costly signals that generate action
YouTube is TV
This week’s MF/TS drills into some darn good advice from two coaches. Both are mentioned in this week’s dispatch because, in this game of life, it’s not really about beating an opponent as it is much about improving yourself at each and opportunity you get.
1. COACH WOODEN - THERE IS ONLY TOMORROW
Thoughts
Only way you can effect the future is you can effect today. I loved this so much because like many of us, I have fell victim to over analyzing the past. As Coach Wooden begs us all to think about, there’s nothing you can do about yesterday so why bother? Get on with today.
2. FOUR VERY GOOD PIECES OF ADVICE BY COACH BUZZ WILLIAMS
Thoughts
When I got into the mailroom at Paradigm Talent Agency, I’d meet with any Agent who would give me the time of day. Nearly every single one said: read every single thing you can. I took that to heart and have read as much as humanly possible. Fascianting that a Division 1 NCAA basketball coach echoes the same advice, plus a few other tidbits worth considering on your journey.
3. THE POSTURE OF OUR TIMES: HAVING RUGGED FLEXIBILITY
“To be rugged is to be tough, determined, and durable. To be flexible is to consciously respond to altered circumstances or conditions, to adapt and bend easily without breaking,” he writes. “Put those together and the result is a gritty endurance, an anti-fragility that not only withstands change, but thrives in its midst. This is rugged flexibility, the quality you need to become a master of change.” - Nice News, March 6, 2025
Thoughts
The more you embrace change and the inevitablity that things will happen out of your control, the more likely you’ll be able to ride and catch the wave. Just like a surfer who paddles, tries to find the timing but may or may not catch the wave, you have to have the patience to adapt in real time. Have the persistence get back up when you eat it. And then, it all might align and you might be floating along. In this era, it pays to be open minded, to being flexible, and to adapt to the moment you’re in.
VISUALS OF THE WEEK
Go forth.
Stay safe.
Ride the wave.
