Hello Move Fast, Think Slow Readers! - As a great mind once said, I hope this note doesn’t find you. I hope you've escaped, that you're free. 😂 😬 If this email has found you, let’s take a moment to drop hot fire sauce for you CHEF! 👨🍳
Last week’s MF/TS dispatch nerded out on if the Super Bowl :30 media buys are worth $7MM, it’s always a fun advertising debate. It’s also always fun to debate if the TV spots themselves were any good. In the creative department Cerave, Dunkin, and Disney+ stuck out to me.
Last Friday I was honored to speak at a class taught by the legendary advertising / media ecologist Jack Meyers. He was preparing students at the University of Arizona (my alma mater) for what’s possible out there. Out there is a life in the real world. And in our society, that means having a job. That’s amazing and depressing all at once.
Nevertheless, it was tremendous to be back at the University of Arizona. A really great school. If you want to see some pics / read my key takeaways you can see them here.
That being said, I haven’t had a lot of time to write this week. Which is why we’re opting for a 4x4 dispatch.
4 things to make you think. 🤔
4 things to see. 👀
As I’ve recommended in the past. Maybe grab yourself a notepad and pen while reading this.
Give yourself a moment to breathe.
In writing, you can actually invest in yourself.
You can identify what rings true to you.
And in doing so, you will get that much closer to the essence of what makes you feel the most alive.
4 THINGS THAT MAKE YOU THINK 🤔
I’ve been coming back to this a lot over the past year. I echoed this to the students last week. Natasha Lyonne had an awesome way of saying the same thing too here. You’re weird sh** tends to be your super powers. A fascinating concept.
Have patience. And be kind to yourself. I told the students that they have to be positively programming themselves daily. The world won’t do you any favors in the vibes department, so you might as well remind yourself how great you are. What comes with that tends to be nothing but goodness. Better yet, you will just generally feel better.
If you’re not curious to be learning more or compounding on your super powers than what are you doing?
The boring daily stuff. The stuff that takes time. The stuff that you’ve spent years doing. They’re not the most exhilarating rushes. But, they are what gives you the foundation that will enable your greatness. What basics are you practicing weekly?
4 THINGS THAT MAKE YOU GO 👀
What a vibe. This is what people used to do before the screens took over. They’d call someone to talk for minutes. I just love this picture.
Elementary school teacher and author Bruce Coville on love:
“Nothing you love is lost. Not really. Things, people—they always go away, sooner or later. You can’t hold them, any more than you can hold moonlight. But if they’ve touched you, if they’re inside you, then they’re still yours. The only things you ever really have are the ones you hold inside your heart.”
