The last dispatch covered my trip to Paris (Pressing pause on the rat race). Reflections on the need to take a break, observations of Paris, and running. Give it a review if you missed it.
This week I’m introducing a new dispatch model. It’s inspired by old boy James Clear’s 3-2-1 dispatches. I’m calling it 5x3. Five things to make you think. Three things to make you go “oh that’s niiiiiiice.” Without further ado. Give it a go! 🤗
5 THINGS THAT MAKE YOU THINK 🤔
1 - SWEAT THE SMALL THINGS IN BIG WAYS
This ties to an underlying theme/insight from the Rebooting our (tech) systems series. I think the real-life hack is getting off this tech/screens whenever you can. Press pause to be good to yourself. To write. To meditate. To smell flowers. To be healthy. All of that shit. It really matters. And it’s really good for you.
2 -PRIME TIME WISDOM
The call to be consistent is giving James Clear vibes and Deion knows what he’s talking about. Prime Time is flat out having an icon moment. And deservingly so. He is writing sports history in real-time. But it’s not just luck or some magic potion. It’s because this man understands the keys to success. Some of which are reflected above. Often it’s not about being great, it’s about showing up consistently every day. And the results tend to speak for themselves over a long-period of time. Think about it.
3 - APPLE INC. DOING GOOD STORYTELLING; EVEN BETTER ACTIONS ON CLIMATE SUSTAINABILITY
If you haven’t watched this great piece of “branded content” by the typically brilliant Apple Inc. then you ought to take a second to give it a peak. It’s not just a PSA but it’s also inspiring, revealing, educational, and fun. Like we have seen historically with Apple, this storytelling deserves a hat-tip of big proportions. Apple comes off as fully seeing the moment. A moment that is oh so serious and yet can still be met with some form of levity. A moment where it seems that Apple is trying its best to do it’s part in climate sustainability efforts aka the fight of our lives.
4 - LINKLATER ON STATE OF FILM
This response/pointed POV from the legendary film director Richard Linklater is pretty profound. It encompasses the cultural/creative paradigm shift of this moment. As someone who has lived close to and loved the film business, it’s hard to deny the truth of these statements. It’s connected to the often cited observations in MF/TS asking: how ‘good’ are these technological tools, screens, and tech businesses to the larger culture? Is it truly better for the masses to lose more chances to rally around a shared fireside story? Or are disparate messages coming at us at high speeds better for the culture? 5 - BAD TIMING DOESN’T EXIST
This little beautiful take about who the right people are in your life versus not is exquisite. Give it a read. Think about it. And just remember. You get what you give. So if you don’t have enough good friend/family mojo in your life. Go out and find it. It exists in all kinds of pockets/places/spaces. If you give it an effort, you you find your mates. 3-THE DRIP WAS (AND STILL IS) AMAZING
I’ve been watching Coach Prime aka Prime Time aka Neon Deion do it since I was a kid. People don’t realize how much he paved a new path for a new kind of athlete. A new kind of football player. Establishing new (and creative) way(s) to secure the bag. To grow the brand. Not only is he coaching up the kids / establishing a new winning college program (that didn’t win any games a year ago). He is still showing us new and creative ways to build the brand & secure the bag. A real trailblazer. He and his Colorado Buffalos take on the mighty Ducks of Oregon this weekend in Eugene. We’ll see if they can pull off another jaw-dropping victory or maybe reality will set in that they’re just not there yet. Either way, we’re all rooting for you Coach Prime.
